Me too, excited and nervous at the time. Not done anything academic since school - which was a life a time ago! Eeekkkk :-)

Hi, I'm starting too, very excited, been wanting to do this for years, but nervous as I left school a very long time ago!

Kat Rowe - Tue, 14/05/2013 - 13:18

I'm starting DD101 in October, although still unsure about what subject my degree will end up being! :)

Clare Butters - Wed, 15/05/2013 - 10:36

I'm starting DD101 in Oct too. Been a long time since I was last in education, so though I am very excited, I'm also a little concerned about juggling the study alongside caring for my young family. I live in Brighton, and am keen to make contact with others for support please!

Sarahjane Willars - Wed, 05/06/2013 - 22:22

Hi Clare I'm Sarahjane been a very long time since I was in education too. I have 5 children so I know exactly it's like, would love to hear from you.:)

Laura Holman - Wed, 03/07/2013 - 19:39

Hi Clare,

I start DD101 in October too - absolutely petrified about how much time it will take up but very much looking forward to it.

I live in Burgess Hill so if we wanted to meet up somewhere in the middle or take it in turns to travel either way it'll be good to share the pain with someone nearby!

I don't have a young family but I work full time at Gatwick and also planning my wedding so I'm apprehensive of what my stress levels will be!

How have you found navigating the OU website? There's so much to grasp and its not even the course material yet!

Hopefully there'll be an opportunity to meet up - speak soon
Laura

Julia Jones - Wed, 12/06/2013 - 21:22

Hi, I have just discovered this platform.  I am starting same course in October too.  I work part-time and have 2 kids age 5 and 7, wondering how I will fit it in, but got to give it a try.  Good to see others in similar situations, I am in Highland Scotland, anyone else up here?

Demi B - Wed, 19/06/2013 - 09:51

Hi everyone ! I'm starting the same module in October too, really looking forward to it. I'm really happy I discovered OU, this will allow me to carry on working full time :) Has anybody applied for a loan through student finance ? I was unsure of how much I was supposed to apply for. It did not ask me what the full amount for the degree would be, it only asked me what will be the fee for the first year. Does that mean I will have to keep applying every year ? ?

Gareth Phillips - Mon, 24/06/2013 - 22:04

Hi All,
Im Starting the DD101 in October and have done the same as Deimante, I have just selected the DD101 course part time and used student finance of just over £2,000 as doing the other ones would have meant approx 30 hours a week study and that's too much with my job as well. When I ave completed DD101 will I have to keep enrolling for the next modules and applying for further loans?? Thanks

Demi B - Mon, 01/07/2013 - 16:12

Hi Gareth,

I have spoken to someone that has got a loan with student finance, and it seems we will have to re-apply every year (seems a bit odd) . They also said that they've not had the best experience with them, as they are not very efficient.

Hopefully everything will be ok for us and we can just look forward to October knowing that our loan is sorted :) I've not heard from them yet, and I've applied about 3 weeks ago, getting a bit anxious !

Carina-Marie Harris - Tue, 02/07/2013 - 00:07

 Hi Guys

I'm also starting in October and seem to be in the same boat as you. I applied for my student loan around a month ago and still havent heard anything from them. When i log on to my account it just states that they are processings my application. So i guess ill just have to wait and see.

I also find it a bit strange that we have to apply every year too.

Anyway roll on October, can't wait to start !!!!!

Gareth Phillips - Thu, 04/07/2013 - 21:41

Hey Carina,

Like I just mentioned to Demi B, I would give SFE a call to find out what is happening with your loan application, seems to be taking far too long???!!!

Gareth Phillips - Thu, 04/07/2013 - 21:39

Hi Demi B,

My status on Student finance said "we have sent you forms to sign and fill in and send back to us" I waited a while but had nothing so called them. They send them out 2nd class so that's why it takes a while...anyways I received them yesterday and signed them and sent them off. If any ones status on here says we are processing your application for more than a week, then I would certainly give them a call if I were you to chase up the situation?? I think it is odd we have to re-apply every year but at least they cant refuse us for numerous loans as none have to be paid back until 2017 and only if we make over £21,000pa :)

Kirsty Elliott - Fri, 19/07/2013 - 21:38

Hi my fee loan confirmation came through the other day, I am doing the same course as everyone else here. You do need to check your account on the Student Finance website as the correspondance they send you will be there! Hope this helps

Rasha Kamaliddin - Mon, 22/07/2013 - 16:03

Hi guys,

I'm also starting in October and pretty much feeling the same as all of you - a mixture of nerves and excitement.

Really encouraging to see all the support and that we're all in the same boat!
