Hi All,

My name's Allie, I'm 20 and starting Psychology in October.

Quite a mixture of nerves and excitement.

It seems everyone is quite keen to make study groups etc, I'm definetely more than up for it. Am also based in Essex if anyone else is!

Getting nervous now feels like it's been years since I studied! x

Maddi Selfe - Sun, 09/09/2012 - 21:34

I am based in Essex, but I am studying DD101! I'm 21 by the way!

Alexandra Smith - Sun, 09/09/2012 - 22:13

Hi all,

hope its going well as time is drawing closer..and you are right, nerves and excitement kicking in. I suppose mainly due to it being different to anything I have done before, as for the majority of us possibly. im doing DD131 & DSE141, Im from Oxford, 25..and hopefully speak with some of you soon..

best of luck..and we always have each other.. ;-) x

Alexandra Smith - Tue, 11/09/2012 - 07:57

Hi Both,

I would say more excitement than nerves, I did study both Psychology & Sociology at A-Level and loved it. Just afraid of remembering and applying the knowledge!

It’s good we’ve all got the same choices, I’m not sure If anyone’s started a group yet for the particular modules.. but I’ll have a check in a moment and if not I will open one.

Has anyone received any material yet? :) x

Bye for now

Rachael Fisher - Mon, 17/09/2012 - 23:24

Hi Tanya,

I'm starting these same units in October too and I'm quite local to you in Sheffield if you would like a local study buddy. I'm useless with these forums which is frustrating on top of the daunting pile of books on top of working part time. If you are interested in teaming up then but sure to let me know :)

Hope to hear from you,

Rachael, 22, Sheffield

Alexandra Smith - Tue, 11/09/2012 - 13:47

Hi Tanya,
Brilliant, there’s so many people!
As I said in previous comments I will get round to setting up a group later on, if there’s not already one.
I hope that mine have arrived, funny how exciting receiving text books can be!
:)

Hi Everyone,

I am also going to be studying these courses and I'm really excited (and a tad nervous)!

I'm 26 and live in Milton Keynes. I've never been in a study group before but would definitely like to join one.

I got my coursebook early it seems and it's really interesting so far. I'm in chapter 3 of Part 1. When you all start reading it I'd love to discuss some of the topics; I'm particularly interested in how far we all might have gone with Milgram!

Rachel Oxley - Thu, 13/09/2012 - 17:52

 Hiya,

So excited now but yet still nervous, had my first book through today for psychology and looking forward to getting the social sciences book :-) I have also start reading about Milgram's interesting ways and especially the ethics surrounding the experiment.

Alexandra Smith - Fri, 14/09/2012 - 21:02

Daniel Watts - Mon, 17/09/2012 - 19:39

Hi Emma and Maryam, yeah I must admit after receiving my stuff in the post i found it quite daunting too! Have you watched some of the videos on the OU website about studying tips? After I watched them it wasnt so daunting after all!

Blimey Emma! Youve got your work cut out for you! How long will you get to study when your little ones at the childminders?

Emma Andrews - Tue, 18/09/2012 - 09:30

i have just been watching them and they do seem to help :)

it works out about 12 hours a week but i will try and get some done in the evenings as he is in bed by 8. I will also have to sacrifice my weekend social life!

Maryam Aslam - Wed, 19/09/2012 - 15:05

I've watched some of the videos too, they calmed me down alittle! Now i'm just stressed about the first assignment for DD141 as its due on 12th november when i'm on holiday so i have to get it done before i go which is in 5 weeks time.
I've started reading and watching the dvd but theres so much to learn and take in. Hopefully it will all come back to me from my A-Levels.
Glad you are all on here to share advice and tips, really helps.

Daniel Watts - Thu, 20/09/2012 - 20:18

Yeah, we have TMAs due starting Nov and then one every month until May by the looks of it!! :-O

Cool Emma, sounds like youve got it all planned! Im hoping to do the same, 12 hours a week! Haha, thats it youre new idea of a wild sat night will be writing an essay with Learning Companion 1 and a strong cup of tea by your side......

Errr Maryam, I'm not certain you can be taking a holiday (!!!!) haha! How long you be going for? Will you be catching some november sun?? Just be sure to psychoanalyse everyone you meet! :-P

Maryam Aslam - Thu, 27/09/2012 - 20:55

I'll try to psychoanalyse everyone i meet but not sure i'll have much time between wedding parties and sunbathing, oh and reading my learning companion! I might even take the DVDs with me, geeky i know but we're psychology students now!

Daniel Watts - Tue, 02/10/2012 - 21:39

Beverley Adams - Wed, 03/10/2012 - 16:00

Hi im Beverley im from West Wales also starting these on 6th October ... im a full time mummy to 4 kiddies under 7 .. i work part time and my hubby works full time but i love being busy. looking forward to taken on a new challenge of learning again although i was daunted when the material arrived but deep breath lol ... only thing im confused about is the Dummy TMA without a due date .. does anyone know what that is for ?? xx

Daniel Watts - Mon, 08/10/2012 - 11:25

Hi all, ah! Course has started! How's everyone getting on? Is it bad that after watching the first two films, all those takeaways have made me hungry??!! Has anyone attended a tutorial yet? If so, what was it like? I had a local one on sat but couldn't go due to work (eugh!)

Hi Beverley, I felt the same way when my books etc turned up, but the daunting feeling soon goes away! Yeah I've looked at that dummy TMA and can't find any reference to it in the learning companion so not sure what thats for... I'm sure all will be revealed through the module.
4 kids under 7! And studying at the same time! Wahay, you must be really committed!

Danielle Sleman - Thu, 11/10/2012 - 17:33

Well it's certainly exciting times!!!

I'm Danielle, from Plymouth, age 33, one son (14) two cats (only 7 legs between them) and one long suffering boyfriend (bless?)!!

I'm starting DD131 in October, then joining DSE  in Feb... slightly delayed as I chose the wrong module to start with!

I work full-time but have diagnosed the early stages of 'empty nest syndrome' so decided to keep myself busy and out of trouble by challenging myself with a bit of study. No more hanging round on street corners for me! I'm looking forward to the tutorials, and maybe getting to meet some new people! :)
