I thought I would start this new thread for anyone starting this module in the next couple of weeks. Don't be shy... introduce yourselves ... maybe we're heading down the same or very similar study route? I will be starting a new group for anyone on this course (and the next step) so look out for that.
I'm Andy, I live in Essex and I'm just about to embark on my Bsc in Criminology and Psychological studies.

Have your course materials turned up yet? Mine did yesterday and have had a look through. cant wait to get started now.

Hei Im starting the Y183 Starting with Psychology in a few weeks too. I live in a place called Newcastle Emlyn in West Wales. My uncle lives In Basildon, Essex its a small world.
I got my course materials pack on Monday and Im looking forward to starting. Ive watched the dvd and started reading the book.
Im hoping this will be the first step towards a Bsc In Psychology fingers crossed.
It is indeed a small world Gemma, I live in Basildon...! When we get a little closer to the start date I'll set up a group dedicated to this module and I'll invite everyone... look out for that. I'm sure we'll get to know each other and find out what routes we're all taking towards our qualifications... catch up soon

Im also starting Y183 on 1st September too, I live in Stoke-On-Trent, my course materials arrived yesterday had a look through the book, gonna have a watch of the dvd today, really looking forward to starting now though, little bit nervous though.
Im also hoping this will be a step towards a Bsc in criminology, good luck everyone, keep in touch and maybe we could all help each other along the way!

Haha no way! Im from longton just outside of fenton, dont know if youve heard of it, but suprised you know the area so well lol and yes i will look out for that, have you heard from your tutor yet? if not do you know when we will? Im a little bit confused with things and need to ask questions

Have you all joined the different groups in OU student association forums? There are lots of regional groups which may help with study days etc and its a good idea to have as much support as possible.
My material arrived yesterday so I'm making a start on reading through it and can't wait to get started. Once it does actually start and we've been contacted by our tutors how about we organise an online kind of conference/chat group to get the ball rolling? I think it can be done in Skype so I'll try and find out.

I've made a group for our starting course for anyone that wants to join (hope you dont mind) as Andy said we could have a chat group kinda thing to help each other out, just thought id get it done before we started then its there for other people who need it too, join if you like its under groups and its called Y183 starting with psychology...kinda stating the obvious but hey lol keep in touch guys :)
Nice one Jess, I'll find it later and join in the mayhem... and of course I don't mind... I didn't want everyone to think I was trying to take over and start dishing orders out. I know Longton... Thanks Andy, and yeah it really is a small world! And no of course not, dont want anyone to think im taking over either,I have no authority over anybody, just thought it would be nice to help everyone out and possibly bring us all together as a kind of team if you like.
Maybe we could set like a time of day we'll all be on here, so we could all chat whilst studying, ill probably be on here throughout most of it anyway.
So Andy how come you came all the way to sunny stoke for contract work? There's no work whatsoever here at the moment, as im sure its probably pretty much the same everywhere else, sorry to keep rambling me and my talking :P

The OU Website is kind of hard to figure out, im still trying to grasp the whole community thing but im sure we'll get there soon enough, if you need any help with your course when it starts though, just chat in here or the group I made and I'm sure we'll all work through it together, I'm hoping more people will join the other group soon though because then we dont have to keep swapping and changing different forums to make it more complicated, Andy said he's gonna join later so that's someone extra, hopefully others will too, as i said anyone is welcome.

My name is Jade and I am starting this course too on 1st Sept.
I am really quite daunted as I haven't studied since I left school 10 years ago and after having two kiddies and working in a call centre for years my brain is a bit fried!! haha!!
So I am glad that there seems to be groups being set up and people I can get to know to talk about the course etc....

Vicky from Liverpool here. Starting Y183 too. After skimming the materials and watching the DVD I'm really loking forward to getting stuck in but a little nervous all the same. It's good to know that there are people out there for support.
