Good morning all,

I am starting S104 in Oct.

Just to introduce myself, I am John, 24, haven’t studied since school, new to the OU, and looking forward to the challenges ahead.

S104 will hopefully be a stepping stone to the BSc (Hon) Secondary Education in Physics.

Just wondering if anybody else is studying this module, or studying for this qualification?

You are also welcome to leave any tips on study with the OU :)

Good luck and thank you for reading.

Hi John

I am also new to S104, just submitting my S177 at this very moment, hope it is finished by now (tired). I am living in The Netherlands, I work part time and am a mum of 2 little boys. I am also studying towards physics and astronomy, let's see how far I will get (lol).

No tips on how to study with the OU yet, although I found the first short module quite easy. Let's see how S104 will be...

See you on the forum I guess

good luck

Marianne

Hi everyone,

I'm also new to OU! Just trying to find my way around the OU website and understand how it works before I start S104 in October too. I figured I'd join in with others that are in the same boat!

My name is Megan, I'm 18 and have just finished college. I live in Swindon, in Wiltshire and am studying towards a BSc (Hon) in Environmental Science.

Looking forward to getting started!

 Hello Megan,

Swindon is not too far, I live near Chippenham..

I still have not got to grips with the website, still keep finding new things every day.

What made you choose the OU as opposed to a mainstream uni?

John

Many reasons really. Its obviously much cheaper and I can't get over the fact that I'd be in £50000 debt by the end of it if I went to normal uni. I also figured that I could do more with my time like earn money to pay off the loan, learn other skills and do work experience in the field I'd like to be working in while I'm studying whereas I'm less likely to get that experience in uni. And I've never been one to just follow what everyone else is doing! =) How about you?

John Jessop - Fri, 14/09/2012 - 10:27

Due to circumstances really, and I have also heard studying through the OU is regarded higher than a mainstream uni…. So in a way, it has worked out better :) What jobs are you looking into doing after the qualification?

Megan Mclauchlin - Fri, 14/09/2012 - 18:01

Well ultimately I would like to get a masters in Marine Biology but I'm quite open minded at the moment :) see where this takes me.

John Jessop - Sun, 16/09/2012 - 22:00

Sounds great, good luck :)

Megan Mclauchlin - Mon, 17/09/2012 - 14:02

Thank you :) what about you?

John Jessop - Mon, 17/09/2012 - 22:30

Ultimately I would like to become either a Physics teacher or primary school teacher. Unsure which yet, both have pros and cons, but I would definitely like to go down the teacher route :)

John Jessop - Mon, 24/09/2012 - 11:40

Have you recieved your course materials yet?

Megan Mclauchlin - Mon, 01/10/2012 - 14:36

Thats sounds good =) Good Luck!

And ya I have recieved the materials, have you?

John Jessop - Tue, 02/10/2012 - 23:24

Thanks :)

Yep just recieved them.... Looks interesting lol....

Do you have an email address? Easier way to communicate rather than over this lol....

Could both help each other if either of us becomes stuck.

It looks like you found plenty people to connect with, that's awesome because I plan to become a student in secondary education for physics. I'm also interested in careers in healthcare administration, I have some tough decisions ahead...
