Hi I am also starting DD131 in October!!! :)

Thomas Reynolds - Thu, 02/08/2012 - 23:57

I'm also starting. I've been trying to find any prep work I can do before the course begins, I've had no luck so I've settled for reading my old A-level books.

Blayne O'Brien - Fri, 03/08/2012 - 15:18

Hi, yes I'm also starting DD131 in October.  West Yorkshire based and the first formal education since 1990 (I have done a few training courses over the years but the longest one was a week!) - so a little nervous but very excited too!

Would be interested to hear what backgrounds other people have.  I currently work in Health Informatincs (IT programmes in the NHS with a specialism of Business Change)

Cara Biskup - Thu, 09/08/2012 - 23:05

Hi, I am also starting this in October, along with DSE141! I am in Scotland :)

Vicky Frankland - Thu, 09/08/2012 - 23:06

Hi! I will be starting this course in October.  16 years out of the studying game so I think the words to describe me are terrified and excited right now.

I read somewhere that a book to have a look at pre starting the course is Social Sciences - The Big Issues by Kath Woodward in case anyone wants any reading material prior to course starting ;)

Hayley Ogden - Sat, 11/08/2012 - 11:03

I have just managed to bag this book on eBay for a few quid. It's on it's way as we speak. :)

Hayley Ogden - Sat, 11/08/2012 - 11:00

Hi, I am also starting this course in October. I am a mother to an almost 3 year old and haven't studied for 11 years since my GCSEs at high school.

Excitement is kicking in now and I am eager to start. I'm from Rochdale in greater Manchester is there anyone else near me starting this course too?

Francesca Grundy - Sat, 11/08/2012 - 20:52

Hi im also starting this course and im from Whitworth which is right next to Rochdale. Really looking forward to starting the course in October.  Thanks also to those of you who put suggestions about reading material for the course.  Im ordering it as soon as ive finished here.

Francesca Grundy - Sat, 11/08/2012 - 20:55

Hi Cara, Im also on couse D141 too.  Not been in the studying game for over 20 years.  Im Flight Service Manager at Virgin Atlantic and have been looking for ages to study.  Im really looking forward to this...be it..im sure..a lot of hard work but its something ive always wanted to study.

Yvonne Blackborough - Sun, 12/08/2012 - 20:16

Hi everyone, it's great to know I am not alone! I wondered if anyone would be interested in joining a Facebook group for the course if I set one up? Or an email study group?

A bit about me... I am married, 53yrs old and live in Dorset. My son has left home (and is currently travelling after studying in Australia for a couple of years) and I have a gorgeous chocolate lab called Molly. I work for the fire service. I am quite worried about the time commitment of studying for the OU but when I hear about people with children and full-time jobs managing to do it I feel a bit better!

I hope we can all keep in touch to give each other some support and encouragement.

Sarah George - Fri, 14/09/2012 - 22:05

Hi Yvonne,

I am Sarah and I would love to keep in touch too!  Just received my study materials for DD131 today which is really exciting and a bit scary too.  Can't wait until I can start.

I am 51, married and I live in Norfolk.  I have two teenagers at home and a yellow lab called Digby and a chocolate cocker called Chester (still a bonkers pup!)  I work around 20 hours a week screening and tutoring dyslexics.  I love my work but now want to go the next step and be an Educational Psychologist.  This is my first time with the OU and I am getting more confident finding my way around the site.   It is very scary studying again and, like you, I am wondering how on earth I am going to juggle everything.  Still, here goes................!

All the very best with your studies.  Do keep in touch.

Kim Wilson - Mon, 13/08/2012 - 22:17

Hi

I'm also starting in October - am yet to figure out how I will juggle my 2 little ones & studying DD131 & DSE141 but it has to work somehow!

I have just had a wee look on waterstones marketplace at the Kath Woodward book The Big Issues - does anyone know what the difference in the first and second edition would be....other then about £25?!

Kim

Yvonne Blackborough - Thu, 16/08/2012 - 13:48

Hi, I have created a Facebook group called DD131 October 2012. I had to add another member in order to create it, so I added my dog...  If she doesn't participate, I will take her off again...

Anyone who wants to join can search for the title group or for my name.

Lisa Tait - Thu, 16/08/2012 - 20:29

hi, im not sure if i found the correct group on facebook! does it have 29 members now? x

Yvonne Blackborough - Fri, 17/08/2012 - 17:50

Hi Lisa

No, just me and my dog I'm afraid...  You could always search on my name to see if that works.

Janine Saville - Sat, 18/08/2012 - 23:27

Hi Everyone,

I am also starting DD131 and DSE141 in October.

Well as you will see, my name is Janine and I am (very) almost 30 years old (in 6 days time). I live on the borders of Nottingham and Derby. I have one daughter who is 8 and have been engaged for just over 2 years now.

I am currently a carer for both of my parents who have suffered many ill health issues in the past few years. I, personally, have been through a very rough few years with health issues which led to many bouts of severe depression.

I am now looking forward to moving on with my life and putting past where it belongs - it is time to stop planning and start doing.

Good luck to you all.

Janine

Michelle Mockridge - Sun, 16/09/2012 - 15:18

Hi everyone,

I'm starting DD131 along with DSE141 in October! I'm really excited but scared on the assignments and keeping motivated!!!

Would love to join a group to keep in touch with everyone xx

Lisa Oxley - Mon, 17/09/2012 - 17:19

I am also starting DD131 in October. I have a 9 year old, a 1 year old, and a trip to Borneo scheduled for the middle of October. I'm worried about what I'm taking on to be honest with you, however I'm currently not working so would rather be at home building on my qualifications, than sat doing nothing! I would also be very keen to join a group.
