Hello everybody there fellow newbies. I'm new at the OU student and started the U116 course. I found it fascinating but, still got some reservations. Hope that someone interested in the same subject, would like to share his/hers experience and opinions with me.

Hi Ulises, I'm just about to start U116 in Feb, hoping to go all the way through to Env Science BSc over the next 3yrs.

You must be a fair way into U116 now, how's it going?

Hello, I am in the same boat and have only just got signed into this forum.  I love the course so far, it has really made me think about things in a different manner.  I have just started scrolling through these posts and found a person in Wilts doing U116.

I am doing the course out of interest rather than needing a qualification, and am at the end of my career rather than the start.  I have spent a lot of time advising the agricultural industry and dairy farmers in particular, so this course is makng me look at things rather differently.

Was I brain washed when I first trained, or am I being brain washed now??  Not sure what the answer to that is yet.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Adrian

Law_student1984 - Sat, 31/10/2009 - 01:09

I'm new to the OU. About to start Y166,starting with law.
Got my materials through and made plenty of notes and read through the book that accompanies the course and done several of the activities.
Really can't wait till it gets totally underway. Only have to wait a day!!!
I went to a normal uni about four years ago but it didn't suit me and i left quickly. Already i can tell this is going to suit me FAR better and i'm hoping this will lead to a law degree.

JackieH - Wed, 04/11/2009 - 15:48

Hi, I am just starting Y166 - Starting with Law.

LucyDiamond - Wed, 04/11/2009 - 18:12

Hi fellow students. I've signed up for the AA100 course, starting in February. Now beginning to wonder what I've let myself in for, as it's more than 40 years since I left school with a few A and O levels. After over 30 years with the NHS I've taken early retirement, so have no excuses, and will find out how far I might have progressed if I had had the opportunity earlier. It's all a bit daunting, though - the old brain may not be up to it, but wish me luck anyway.

Kate87 - Thu, 05/11/2009 - 00:15

Hello everybody,

my name is Kate I'm originally from Germany and just decided a few weeks ago to stay in London for good.
I've already studied literature for two years back in Germany and am going to start with the A210 Approaching Literature course in Feburary. Anybody else doing this course?
I can hardly wait for the course to start to be honest. I am really looking forward to be able to study again.

Hope you are all fine.

Kate

Pimkie24 - Mon, 09/11/2009 - 23:57

Hi fellow Newbies
Just started the AA100 course before tackling a BA in History. Am 51 years old so haven't done any studying since 1403, well that's how long it feels anyway! So far so good, only prob at the moment, is that I live way out in the sticks in North Yorkshire, so getting to the Tutorials is proving tricky.
Anyway, good luck to all my fellow newbies out there, glad I found this site.

Which computing course should I choose?

Hello everyone. I am 17 years old and in the summer i will be moving to England (I am from Greece) to study in the Open University. My problem is that i am not sure of which course i should attend. I've made up my mind that whichever subject i choose it will be about computers. My question is, which course should i choose, i will state that i am NOT THAT GOOD with maths :P So yeah, i await for your replies :D

Hi everyone!

I'm starting with the OU this year. I'm excited and apprehensive at the same time but I suppose most of us feel that way.

xroupa - Thu, 21/01/2010 - 15:40

hey im studying dd101...My name is Ioanna...

Dnel - Tue, 23/02/2010 - 15:24

hi, I'm David, I'm due to start my first module DB123 in May as a precursor to a Business Degree. I'm 26 and I've never been to university before. I dropped-out of my A levels due to family break-up which forced me to getting a minimum wage job and finding a place to live. I've since done 2 NVQ's through night school and I'm looking to take the next step up.

I've considered FT education but having watched so many graduates flipping burgers I could never justify the debt HE imposes now so the OU was the natural choice really. My mum has an OU degree from the pre-Intranet days and has been full of encouragement so I'm really looking forward to it. Part of me still feels I missed out on a lot of the social aspects of uni life so I'm keen to make up for that where I can and get involved.

Robyn Bateman - Tue, 23/02/2010 - 17:25

Hey David

Welcome to Platform and to the OU! I hope you settle into study and the OU way of life once you begin your degree course. I've heard so many great stories from OU students who have managed to fit in study around busy full time jobs, raising a family, moving house and various other challenges - so welcome aboard.

Keep us posted on your study and if there's anything we can help with, just shout.

Robyn (member of the Platform team)

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to say a quick hello to everyone.  I'm Yvonne, I'm based in Warrington and I've just started studying with the OU.  I had signed up to do DD131 Introduction to Social Sciences Part 1 but I quickly realised it wasn't for me and my passion is Earth Sciences so I've transferred to two 10-point courses.  S180 Life in the Oceans and S189 Understanding the Weather.

Looking forward to talking with you all.

Yvonne
