Hi all i was just wandering who else is starting DD131 and DSE141 in may??? and also if anyone who has already done the course could suggest some reading material for me before i start my course???

I took DD131 last year, and I'm over half way through DSE141 now.
Honestly, all the material you need is in the course books. Extra reading won't help you get better scores on your TMAs, unless you're investing in some good books on study skills/essay writing skills. Through buying a good book on composing essays, my TMA marks went 70% -> 85% -> 94% on DD131, so I'd definately recommend skills/essay writing books as a supplement to your module books.
Other than that, although there's certainly no harm in extra reading on topics you're interested in, everything you need to succeed in those modules is in your supplied textbooks.

Hi Becky,
Seeing as you have completed DD131 and are now doing DSE141, I need some advice please.
I have just completed Y163 and want to do DD131 and DSE141. Problem is they are both running at the same time and I don't want to wait until next year to do DSE141 or continue from DD131 to DD132.
Knowing both courses and the workload, is it possible, time permitting, to do both in parallel, or is one a requisite for the other.
Any advice/guidance appreciated.

I don't know about Becky, but I got this one: Good Essay Writing: A Social Sciences Guide (Published in association with The Open University) by Peter Redmen.
Will you be doing both DD131 and DSE141 in parallel?
I have just completed Y163 and am also looking at doing both DD131 and DSE141.

There are loads of other really helpful modules there, all things are covered and they really do help.
I'm hoping that I get on OK with it now, I was nervous as Hell til a week or so! That may be because I haven't been in education since 1980-ish!!!

Nice to know I'm not the only one who's done nothing since the 80's!! I haven't got round to doing any reading just yet as I'm doing DD131 aswell. I also start another module in Nov. That means for 6 weeks or so I'll be doing 3 modules at the same time-I must be mad!! Seriously though, it'll be fineI think cos it's only for a few weeks and if I get stuck in soon I can get a head start. I hope all of us doing this course do well and get where we want to go in life as a result. I'm really looking forward to doing this and changing my life for the better-I should've done it years ago.
Where are you based? I'm in Dartmouth, Devon. I haven't come across anyone else from here as yet, I'm probably the only one asit's abit remote here!
Well, best of luck and have a look on Facebook, there are groups for the courses on there and they're full of friendly people and support-a very good thing if you feel a bit overwhelmed like I do!

I am based in Doncaster - did start Psychology about 10 years ago when I was still in South Africa but only did 18 months as I came back to UK in 2003. Wish I had completed it then,but what will be will be and I really feel that the time is more right now than it was then - I am doing SDK125 in October, what are you going to do? I'm doing dd208 and dse212 in October. dd208 slightly overlaps dd131 and dse141 for a few weeks but I think it's worth putting in the extra effort as I want to try and finish the degree as soon as I physically can! There's no great rush, I'm just looking forward to applying myself then securing the type of job I'm after. I may even take on another module later on when I've secured employment, I'll have to see what time is left for me in the day!!
I've just got a new kitten and he makes it almost impossible to study cos he keeps on biting my arms when I use the computer! God knows how I'll cope when I get stuck in to the module properly?!!

I was just wondering whether anyone else had received their final mark yet for the TMA04? I'm waiting on it as was really ill when wrote it and it was due in when I was on holiday during half term so a little on edge about how good/bad it was!
If it's not just me waiting then that makes me feel slightly less fretful.
I am looking forward to starting DD141 in November, I found this module interesting but also quite hard going at times content wise, I don't think it was quite what I expected. I'll never look at rubbish and traffic the same way again!
