Mark Whitehead - Tue, 21/02/2012 - 22:42

Hi everyone,

I'm Mark Whitehead and I graduated in 1996 with a First in Chemistry with Stats (or at least that's my description of it).

I was working for the Mars Corporation (Pedigree Masterfoods) when I did my degree.  The company decided to sponsor suitable people through the OU in order to ensure that their workforce kept up to date.  Although I had a couple of (poor) A-levels, I was working as an operator on shift.  I eventually moved into Quality (hence studying Stats), and then into the Analytical Lab doing lab Quality.  (If anyone thinks ISO 9000 is hard, try the lab equivalent, ISO 17025!)

Having more time on my hands than I can cope with at the moment, if anyone doing Chemistry or Stats would like someone other than a tutor to bounce ideas off, please contact me. whitesmar@ntlworld.com

Sheree Nicholson - Mon, 27/02/2012 - 19:32

hi im sheree im nineteen and im a new student at ou. Im starting a phsycology course on the 5th of may ( discovering phsycology ) and im very excited :)  I am very very interested in phsycology and im hoping to eventually work towards being a doctor of physcology. i know it will take a few years, a lot of dedicatication and hard work... but it will be worth it because its my dream :) i just want too say too all the new students here believe in yourself because if you want something that bad you will get it. Theres nothing you cannot achieve if you do your best, and sometimes its not about getting there... its about the journey along the way. Good look everyone! thats all for now xox

Yvonne Cook - Sat, 31/03/2012 - 09:07

 Hi Anna

If you've started your course there should be a forum on your course website which you access through your Studenthome page.

On Platform, you can try http://www8.open.ac.uk/platform/study-support/y178-understanding-health .

Good luck with your study.

Jacqueline Maclean - Tue, 08/05/2012 - 14:13

Hello there, I'm Jacqueline and I'm currently limping through my 3rd OU course for my degree in Health and Social Care. I'm a working mum, but I'm also a carer so add studying into the mix and life is certainly a bit of a juggle.  I thought I would join this forum as I am finding it harder to stay engaged with my studies at the moment and I thought this forum might be a good place to call into.  Glad I found you.

Tracy Harrison - Mon, 11/06/2012 - 19:01

hi all, im tracy and am looking forward to starting my criminology and psycholgical studies degree in the autum, im new to this and would apprecite any help or support from anyone, be nice to meet some friends x

Daniel Bibby - Fri, 15/06/2012 - 16:37

Hi Tracy, I'm also studying towards a criminology and psycholgical studies degree but I start my 3rd OU course of it this October.  I started myself with DD101 and found the only advice I can give is to always set time aside for reading and following the online study plan.  I work full time so I fit my reading around commuting and an odd night a week.  Also it's not as intensive to begin with so you can relax and try your best to enjoy it.

Sophie Rann - Sat, 16/06/2012 - 21:50

Hi, I'm Sophie

I'm starting W100 in february, I live in Enfield and I work part-time as a waitress.

I'm 18 years old and feeling really nervous about starting this course so making a few friends beforehand would be nice :)

I'd love to add people on facebook or twitter to speak directly and get to know those on the same course so we could help each other out (and settle my nerves)

Thank you

:)

Hello everyone,

I'm James, from Sheffield. I'm starting BSc (Hons) Natural Sciences, in October. I'm doing the Biology and Health Sciences pathway.

I've just done a year of Biomedical Sciences at Uni, but decided to leave for the OU, because I prefer the style of studying, and so I can be more flexible with work. I can't wait to get started now!

Julie Taylor - Tue, 17/07/2012 - 15:44

Hi Everyone

My name is Julie and I 'enrolled' about 2 hours ago.  Now I'm thinking oh good grief what have I done?  I was last in the classroom over 30 years ago.  I'm now scared, but also excited, but also scared about being excited if that makes sense.  I will be starting Environmental Science in October 2012.  I'm joining every group and forum going hoping that someone will always be there to offer encouragement and for me to bounce ideas off - and please feel free to bounce ideas off me too and I'll also be there to offer encouragement.  Please say HI if you see me in any of the forums.  I'll stop gabbling now.  Good luck with the studies everyone.

Casey Stowe - Fri, 27/07/2012 - 09:19

Hey everyone, I'm Dane, better known as "Casey".

I will be studying International Studies in October which will hopefully, in the long term, lead to a change in employment.

Not too sure what to expect at the moment, I expect it will take some getting used to managing time between my career and other commitments.

See y'all soon!
