Ashley Grand - Mon, 15/10/2012 - 14:30
I am probably going to sound a little bit dense with this question, but can anyone advise me how I find my tutor group forum?
And now to introduce myself, My name is Ashley Grand and I live in the hills of Glossop. Believe it or not, I run my own website blog - but I come across navigation problems on this website far too much. It's insane.
I am completely new to the Open University and everything is still a little bit daunting. I recently left my job in fraud, and I am waiting to start my new job in private healthcare. But in honesty, this is just to pay the bills. I am hoping completing this degree will enable me to get a job I adore.
So, that's me in a nutshell... confused. :-)

Hello everyone!
I've been with the OU for 2 years now but this is the first time around on Platform. I am coming close to the last few courses left to take finish my BSc in Natural Sci by hopefully late next year. I have to say I've really enjoyed being in this Uni especially once I started the level 2 courses. When I am not working on my own courses, I also help my husband with his graduate dissertation - mainly by gathering data by promoting his survey. The topic we are working on is how people percieve privacy in social networking websites like Facebook and we do this by asking some simple questions to anonymous users. My link is given below:
We are even donating money to Save the Children as our counters go up on the surveys, just to get some good karma.
I havent just come here to plug in my husband's survey ( although your survey would really help as we are desperate for each and every survey response we can get). I would also love to know if there are more people like me doing similar degrees to mine. I'd love some good pointers on what sort of careers are good for people with this degree.
Thanks in Advance!
Farheen

Ian Chard - Fri, 07/12/2012 - 12:45
Hi, I've been studying with the OU for a few years now, and having done a few music courses (two undergrad, one postgrad) I've moved on to law -- and yes, there is no connection there at all! I'm now halfway through my LLB and am starting W300 in Feb.
By day I'm an IT guy for a charity, and by night I'm a piano teacher and keyboard player. In the time between day and night I study law
Happy to chat to whoever about whatever -- I've been in IT since 1994 after I finished my first degree, so am more than happy to advise about career paths or whatever.
Cheers
- Ian

Hi All
Im Liz, I'm nearly 22, and I am starting to study for my MSc in Medical Physics. I already studied Physics and Biology at BSc level and hopefully the MSc will lead me down my "ideal" career path- by career path, I mean my doctorate and then onto an actual career!
Hopefully the motavation is there compared to dragging myself to a 9am lecture in Quantum Mechanics!
Robert Fullick - Fri, 08/02/2013 - 11:28
Quantum Physics at 9am..awesome:-) good luck!!!
Verity Armstrong - Sun, 06/01/2013 - 23:44
Hi all, I'm Ver, currently 22 from Bedfordshire. Starting Criminology and Psychology with modules DD131 and DSE141 in Feb 2013, part time.
I used to attend DMU in Leicester, but left due to pregnancy (my bad!)
I now live with my BEAUTIFUL daughter Feena, who's 15 months old and my absolute world.
I want this degree to further my education, but also for her. When I fell pregnant I left the... donor... and went it alone, hence on benefits. I feel quite lucky taking an OU course. It means I can get my qualifications without the expense of travel or having to put Feena in daycare.
I want to eventually get off benefits and work work work! I want to show my daughter that just because I got pregnant young (was 21 when had her) doesn't mean I'm the media-mummy type of young person they show. (I'm sure many of you will agree that young mothers and the media are...ARRGH)
I also hope my course will help me too. I got bullied severely in upper school, self harming etc and have depression (no shame here ;) ) so hope to find out more about myself, the whys, the hows etc. Plus I'd like to end up working with young people to hopefully stop them taking either a criminal route or a route like mine.
Sorry for the essay all. Happy New Year and it's lovely to meet you.
Ver and Feena

Hi Ver,
When I read your post I was really moved to contact you. I am studying the same modules as you and also have a few other things in common, I also have a history of self harm, bullying and depression.
Also its really good to know that you are studying while still being a full time mummy! the reason why this is quite close to my heart is beccause I have a disease called enndometriosis which greatly affects your fertility(amongst other things!) and I'm probably going to need to try for a baby sooner than later. Your story has really inspired me that I can have a baby and study at the same time!
Best Wishes lady, and I hope little Feena is well,
Anneliese xXx

To everyone about to start their OU journey, good luck and I hope you find it to be the life-changing experience that my Mum did many years ago. I work in the OU Library www.open.ac.uk/library and my advice would be to take full advantage of the help and support that the University takes great pride in providing for all students. Whatever your question, there is someone there to help by phone, email, chat... just contact us, we really love to hear from you.
