I started a BSc Chemistry degree at Imperial College London in 1992, aged 17. Ill health got in the way in 1993 - I had a second go at the second year the following year, but didn't last more than six weeks on either attempt.
Over the intervening years, I have been pushing to sort out my health as much as possible, hoping to return to study. I registered for W100 in late 2009 and should get my result next week. I've signed up for W200 and will start that in the new year, working towards a Bachelor of Laws degree.
I know that I could have transferred the credit for my completed year at Imperial, but a law degree is only professionally recognised if all the study is completed within six years and I want to keep open the option of working in the legal professions if I ever strong enough to work. The only exception to the six year rule is if you completed your first degree, in which case you can transfer 120 points from your complete degree and have five years to complete the four 60 point courses compulsory for a law degree.
Whilst my Open University studies only started in February 2010, I started degree level study in October 1992. I make that 18 years and counting!

My academic transcript shows my first OU course in 1974 and the award of BSc. Open in 2007. I had the odd gap between courses!

I didn't think I qualified for this discussion because I started my B.Sc(Hons) in 2004 and finished in 2010, but checking my modules in StudentHome shows I dabbled with A102 in 1988, cancelled. Then same thing happened in 1998 and 2000 with different courses.
I don't know what changed, but lack of further education was a score that I was always determined to settle.

Well I am finally there! BA Health and Social care- passed! I was given an extention to finish the degree just outside of the 10yr ruling. I am ery glad I asked now! To be honest I still can't beleive I have done it! That's one of the great things I love about the OU, the flexibility to study here and there, especially if you go for the Open degrees.
