Once-upon-a-time. the OU presented a course that encouraged creativity in all it's forms. The Summer School was a highlight of the course.  On mine, at the University of East Anglia, we danced through the streets of Norwich, joined in a rendition of "Sailing" with a street busker; played at being Red Arrows and performed a silent dance - in the pouring rain......Does anyone remember TAD?

I remember TAD summer school  at Brighton in the late 1970s - the ideal place - we had good warm weather with sunshine (I'm sure some people will recall what that was like when we used to have summers).

We had a great time on the beach one day sketching breaking waves in an investigation into unstable events.  It was very informal & I guess was frowned on by those who did not take part or were engaged in HARD WORK. However the event did allow one to free up one's thinking & to encourage the taking of risks in thinking.

It seems to me that the summer school especially was an opportunity to reflect on why we were doing what we were by that I mean thinking about the nature of education & learning & creativity.

Some years after I had finished my degree I found myself in a 'teaching' situation in industry & I would try to incorporate novel ways of involving delegates to encourage them to think 'outside the box' & certainly my attendance at the summer school was in the background of my mind as I did this.

I suppose looking back it was a bit of a holiday but a holiday with a purpose other than hedonistic enjoyment. Incidentally I failed the course but that was due to external circumstances ( well that is my excuse)

One of the tutors I recall was Jane Lowe so hello if you are reading this Jane.
