I was wondering if a thread for us to post our Facebook, Twitter & any other contact links might be useful? On a lot of the OU courses I've taken so far, the students in the tuto group have a thread to exchange their links so they can get in touch with each other socially as well as academically. The threads are often popular so if you'd like to connect with other young OU students, you could pop your links down here with a bit of info?

Great idea Amanda, I know some of our young student bloggers are on Twitter, @MagpieClo and @openexperience, for example. Sadly, I'm way too old to be a "young student" so I'll clear off now.

@Robyn - Don't be so silly! ;-)

@Michelle - That's a really relevant point and I agree. I've put in an enquiry as to whether a facebook group could be created specifically for young students. Hopefully this would act more of a social place when young students can meet and chat about other things than uni work, and have a break!

Hi Hayley,

I like the idea of the Facebook group. Let us know how it goes! :)

And as for you Robyn, you don't have to clear off - as long as you're young at heart :p

Hi Michelle,

I did manage to talk to someone about it, and it looks like it'll be something a couple of students will have to create and manage, as it's not an official part of the Open University, understandably. I would love to, but unfortunately at the moment I'm quite busy with my two modules, but will definitely consider creating one with some others (perhaps you might be interested?) in the next few months instead?

Let me know what you think!

Hi Hayley,

I've been searching Facebook, and there is a group already set up for Open University Young Students. It was set up in about 2007 I think! But its still active.

I was liking the idea of setting up a group, but as there is already one, instead of clashing with it - perhaps we can all join it?

Hi Michelle,

This is great - I've joined already! Thanks for finding that out, there are so many groups on FB I'm not really sure which are the 'proper' ones and which aren't!

How are you finding your course so far?

Hayley

I've just joined the one linked above. It'd be really nice to get to know people, regardless of which course they're studying. I think that just knowing people at the same university who know how things work can make the whole thing so much easier! If I talk about the OU with friends who are at 'brick' universities I often just end up with lots of questions... Which is good, and I'm happy to spread the word, but sometimes I feel like I'd like to talk about it without having to explain all the time.

I hope you're all enjoying your modules. :)
