Hello everyone! My name is Hayley, I will be turning 20 in two months, and I live in the good old countryside of Dorset! It is wonderful living in such a serene and beautiful place because it makes working so much easier. There is no noise pollution to clutter my head when trying to work at night, and it's fantastic to just sit in the garden during sunny days and read uni work at ease.
Would love to meet other young students who live in and around Dorset!! Do get in touch :o)

Welcome Katie :o)
Happy belated birthday! Your course sounds really interesting - my boyfriend did an Environmental course with the OU and said it was brilliant. How are you finding it? I'm studying AA100 and DD101 and they are both very interesting so would recommend!
Is this your first stage of higher education, or have you attended university before?
Hayley

Hi. :) I'm Nikki, 21 and living in Southampton. I'm currently studying DD101: Introduction to the social sciences, and plan to do further modules after this one has finished.
It's really nice to find there's a group for us little ones!
Amy Hunt - Mon, 13/06/2011 - 14:44
Hi All,
Amy here I am not yet a member of the OU but I am looking to study phycology, just trying to get a feel for it. looks like I am a baby at 18 :)I am in good old Luton UK lol :)
Matthew Hopkins - Mon, 13/06/2011 - 16:17
I have studied DD101, (which is a good starting point for Psychology), it is a challenging module, but, very informative, it is a very good module. I live near Cardiff, and am 21, and am currently trainning to go into the TAs. Some say 21 is a wild age, guess not!. The OU is enjoyable, and is completley ace.
Robyn Bateman - Mon, 13/06/2011 - 16:13
Hi Amy and welcome to Platform, the OU's community website.
And you've come to the right place, there are plenty of youngsters doing OU courses, and you'kll have discovered by joining this group. If you're looking to study psychology you might find the Psychology group useful - http://www8.open.ac.uk/platform/your-subject/psychology
I think I've introduced myself somewhere else on this site but I forget where (I'm pretty sure it wasn't here), so I'll do it again for you chaps.
My name's Kirstie and I'm also an OU bairn - I'll be turning 24 in about three weeks, which is quite exciting. I live in Newcastle Upon Tyne but I'm a Yorkshire girl, born and bred! I'm embarking upon my first OU course in October, AA100 - Arts Past And Present - with a view to gaining a degree in English Literature after superbly flunking regular Uni twice in a row; nothing about traditional University life seemed to suit me, especially the bit where you're skint all the time. I reckon I'm ready for this, though!
If anyone's studying in or around the North-East, feel free to give me a heads up!
Kirstie
Sophie Yhearm - Fri, 09/09/2011 - 09:48

Sure wish that Platform was around when i started, don't really bump into that many younger students at tutorials!

Hello,
I have given an extended introduction on the AA100 platform, but I will introduce myself on here aswell.
My name is Katrina and I am 19. I start the AA100 course in October and am very excited about it. I think the OU will be a challenging but rewarding experience.
I intend to focus on History for my degree as this was my favourite subject at school and I find it very interesting.
Martha Paris - Mon, 15/08/2011 - 16:07
Hi All,
I'm Martha.. I am 19, live in Suffolk and I'm starting my first module in october.
Katrina McAinsh - Tue, 16/08/2011 - 18:23

I'm glad there's someone else here representing us teens! What module are you doing?
Good luck with the OU.

Kirstin Young - Thu, 18/08/2011 - 19:11
Hiya.
I'm Kirstin. I'm 19, and I live in Bangor, which is in Northern Ireland. I haven't noticed many people in a similar area, unfortunately.
I'm studying AA100: The Arts Past and Present, with intentions to do further modules and gain a BA Hons English Language and Literature. I want to go on and do a PGCE afterwards, to become a Secondary School English teacher - possibly. That's always subject to change, but English has always been my favourite subject, and everything I've wanted to do has related to English (aside from a brief stint of wanting to work in a funeral home, haha), so I'm sure the degree will still prove useful.
Look forward to talking to all of you :)
Chris Nelson - Thu, 25/08/2011 - 23:48
Hello,
I'm 25, so just about qualify for this forum, and live in Kettering, Northamptonshire. Having previously done a degree in law - which while fun, was not the right course for me - I've now finally taken the plunge to do the chemistry degree I should have done all along via the OU's BSc Natural Sciences course.
I work full time in a secondary school and, having already completed 6 short courses over the summer, I'm enrolled onto both S104 (Exploring Science) and S205 (The Molecular World) from October - meaning that by this time next year I should have completed half my degree. :-)
With all that work I'm clearly a glutton for punishment - but since I want to use this degree to become a Chemistry teacher (after completing a PGCE of course!), I guess that's just as well! ;-)
Chloe Thacker - Fri, 02/09/2011 - 00:41
Hey everyone!
I'm Chloe and a young OU student at 19. I live in Essex which I hate admitting to as it carries with it a nasty stereotype, but anyway, hello to everyone in the forum/group and I hope you're all enjoying your studies. Does anyone have any tips with being a new student? Things that have gone wrong or right during study?
I'm starting SDK125 Introduction to health sciences on October 1st, with DSE141 following next may (hopefully!). My long term aspiration is to gain the degree in Psychology with the hope of aiming towards a career in the field.
I chose the OU after having some health problems during the last year or so which have caused interruptions to my studies so far, so I am extremely grateful to the OU for giving me a second shot at education. I just can't wait to get started and really throw myself into the whole experience. It would be really love to speak to some of you more.
If any other young students want to chat, regardless of what course you're on then my email is chloe.eleanor_t@hotmail.com, it would be really lovely to hear from you. Don't be shy, come say hello and we can be study buddies. :)

I live near Lincoln in Lincolnshire and I decided to start a psychology degree as I only got 2 A-levels due to suffering from some very difficult health problems over the past couple of years. So no work experience or enough A levels to get me into my desired uni's.
I'd love to hear from other young students, my email is lhjpackwood@live.com drop me a line, I'm very happy to chat!
