Hi to All
I completed OU M801 in 2010. Whilst doing this I became interested in object-oriented paradigms
I am now privately studying the research/development of object-oriented paradigms and languages (for my own amusement).
If you are interested in this area I would love to chat to you
Cheers
Andrew

I recently finished my MSc in CCI
Whilst doing this I had a number of thoughts and ideas about OO concepts. There is a lot more to OO than just classical inheritance!
I want to develop my thoughts but, unlike Mr A. Einstein, my internal monlogue is not up to it.
So I am looking for someone to dialogue with (or trialogue etc)
The outcome might be a deeper/wider understanding of OO, or some new approach to OO
thanks
Andrew

Please help me with my OU MSc Dissertation Research in Computing for Commerce and Industry (M801).
The focus of my study is the driving forces and barriers to the adoption of Cloud Computing solutions in Small and Medium Organisations (SMEs).
If you are involved in specifying, approving or recommending technology solutions for an SME, I would be grateful if you could spare a moment of your time to complete the survey which is located at http://app.fluidsurveys.com/surveys/cloudresearch/sme-adoption/
If you enter your email address at the end of the survey, I will provide you with a copy of the research when it is published in March 2012.
Thank you in advance - your assistance would be very much appreciated.
Regards
Chris Latham

The 30-point postgraduate module addresses global computing concerns over information security, including threats, physical and environmental security, security architecture and design, intrusion prevention, virtual private networks and information security risk management.
The OU says it will provide computer networking professionals with highly valued commercial qualifications. The university is working with industry and education to address the current shortage of skilled IT professionals, which poses a threat to IT security.
The OU is a Cisco Academy – part of the global networking education programme operated by networking equipment market leader Cisco Systems. Cisco certifications are highly regarded in the networking industry. Network security will prepare students to take the CCNA (Cisco Certified Networking Associate) Security certification and provide a foundation for preparing for the ISC2 Certified Information Systems Professional (CISSP) certification.
It is a compulsory module in the OU's Postgraduate Diploma and MSc in Advanced Networking and an optional module in a number of other postgraduate computing qualifications.
Andrew Smith, Lecturer on the OU's Cisco Certified Networking Associate and Professional (CCNA/CCNP) programmes, said: “Successful completion of Network security will open up career opportunities in infrastructure and network security, systems security management and advanced networking – with recent news stories about hacking, these areas should be a priority for all businesses and private network users.”
The first presentation starts on 5 November.

A new social networking and social movement site for people with medical adversities/disabilities is to be launched. This site will break the barriers of social networking, transcend and engage society to promote inclusion and equality for people affected by medical adversities/disabilities.
Enerfly (Equality, Needs, Empowerment, Respect, Franchise & You) is raising awareness of its goals and is keen to get people involved with the project and gain support.
Enerfly recognises that in this age we are taught to strive for flawless perfection. The way we dress, our appearances the way in which we communicate are constantly judged. People affected by medical adversities face stigma and or discrimination because they deviate from this media hyped ‘perfection.’ Negative attitudes create barriers which can limit potential to be fully engaged in society and make worthwhile contributions.
Enerfly realises that bringing people together in a supportive network will empower users on many different levels. It aims to create a booming collective voice for people affected by medical adversities to achieve equality and inclusion.
The project has gained support/sparked interest within NHS foundations, other charities and colleges. You can find out more about the project and get involved by visiting the information page at:

I am still wondering what to do about developing a career in IT as their is so many confusing info on the internet and I am trying to decide what to do. first thing of all is I understand allot of employers requirements are that you have a degree I don't know if this needs to be in IT or not.
The first thing I wish to talk about is degrees I have been offered only 30 credits towards an open university degree in IT and computing based on this I would have to study it for around 4 years at least part time however I have been offered 240 credits towards an open degree.
I am contemplating which to do I don't like the idea of doing it for 5 years basically if I did IT as a subject it would take me 5 years part time to complete a degree.
If I do the open degree as I all ready have a HND in design communications and because of this the open university have awarded me 240 credits towards an open degree which is not a named degree as such. clearly this means I could get a degree in 2 years part time or 1 year full time.
I am really unsure which would be best to get for me currently would not having an IT degree stop me from being able to get an IT job?
Also I am really unsure about what courses would be a good decision for me to do for example the A++ or the mcsa, mcse courses I have seen some that are done by computeach but when I called to discuss my problems here they seemed to try to sell me a sales pitch.
computeach told me the fee was £1700 to do the Microsoft certified courses and the A++ for 12 months subscription which seemed to me they were trying to do the hard sell.
I am really unsure what is the best path to follow clearly allot of employers are demanding a degree but I am not convinced being Microsoft certified would get me a good paying job what do you know about the best way to break in and what is the job employment prospects out their.
Is the fact I have 2 years experience administrating a picking and load system at a super market home shopping a good thing to have on my CV computeach was saying it would not really show any thing to an employer.
since you have allot of experience I would like your opinion what would be the best step forward to develop a career clearly I cant go any where with in super market any more its a case who you know rather than how hard you work.
thanks paul.

At a time when 83 graduates are chasing each job vacancy, a recruitment crisis is looming in the UK’s information technology industry.
The sector skills council for IT, e-skills UK, says the UK will need additional 500,000 workers in IT and telecommunications over the next five years. But numbers of people taking IT-related subject at university have plummeted by 44 percent since 2001.
It's against this background that the OU has just launched its new IT and Computing undergraduate programme, which is targeted at the skills gap and will equip graduates with specific skills the IT industry says it is looking for.
"The Open University’s engagement with the industry has highlighted a perceived lack of business acumen among those coming out of education, and an inability to put technical skills to use in a work setting. Our new degrees are designed to tackle these two major issues," says Kevin Streater, executive director for IT and telecoms at the Open University.
