Following on from Edison´s first lightbulb moment back in 1879, the OU´s Stephen Serjeant, from the Faculty of Science, experiments with an alternative power source - the humble potato.

That was an inspired bit of film. I really enjoyed it. I have run a clock from electricity in soil, but I have never tried a potato......

Hello everyone. The main reason I didn't want you to eat the potatoes afterwards is that I've no idea what raggedy / dirty bits of metal went into them, so I've no idea what could be in the potatoes afterwards, and I don't want to hear from m'learned friends if it all went horribly wrong... I didn't eat the ones in the video, but mainly because I left them in a bag and forgot about them and they went all green & sprouty :)
