First post I've made on these forums.
As far as I understand it the "space" is refering to the universe as an object. The story about the ants is meaning they are only looking ahead therefore they think it's just a straight line. My example I think is similar is us on the earth. If we walked in a straight line we'd be going round the curvecture of the earth so in 3D space this isn't straight. I'm asuming this means the universe could work in a similar way and appear to be going out in a flat disk shape but from an outside view we could be turning round some curving surface. This is where I feel I could be wrong about my whole interpretation as that would mean the surface would probably be in some other dimension due to holding 3D upon it. Also my own theory is the big bang is an explosion and therefore expands into something (for example: gas, liquid and solid) and moving or breaking it. I think it is expanding into something that is impossible to find out what as light does not exist there so we can't detect it unless we manage to find a new thing which is detectable and is out there.
Very confusing for people who don't do physics as you seem to be using the word space in a new way.Instead of using the word to mean emptiness or a lack of something you talk as if it is a material object that can curve or expand. The only way none physicists can concieve of this is to imagine a space contained within a material object which I dont think is what you mean.I think by space you are talking of the effects of gravity in space in some way, but not been a physicist I'm not really sure.It would have helped greatly if you could have done a short video clip about what you mean by the word space. This is my first visit to the site so if you have already done this please accept my apologies or if the video was intended only for physicists please accept them again.
