Presented by an Open University Staff Tutor (Languages), Ximena Arias Manzano, the talk will explore the ways in which Chinese was written in the past. Ximena will also discuss the evolution of written Chinese and how computer and mobile technology have transformed the handling of written Chinese. The importance of Mandarin in the business world today will also be discussed.

The talk is followed by a short interactive workshop, with the chance to write Chinese characters and Ximena will demonstrate The Open University’s Chinese@OU App.
