An introduction to Chinese language learning in the past, present and future.

As part of The Dublin Chinese New Year Festival 2019 The Open University in Ireland, in collaboration with the The National Library of Ireland, is celebrating with a free, fun talk and interactive workshop entitled ‘An introduction to Chinese language learning in the past, present and future’.

 

Presented by Ximena Arias-Manzano, Open University Staff Tutor (Languages) in Ireland, the talk will explore the ways in which Chinese characters were written in the past. Ximena will also discuss the evolution of Chinese characters and how computer and mobile technology have transformed the handling of characters. The importance of Mandarin in the business world today will also be discussed.

 

The talk is followed by a short interactive workshop, with the chance to write Chinese characters and Ximena will demonstrate The Open University’s Chinese@OU App.

 

The Friday, 08 February 2019 workshop from 11:00 to 12:00 is suitable for primary school 5th class upwards.

 

The Saturday, 09 February 2019 workshop from 15:30 to 16:30 is suitable for age 16 upwards.
