Sold out: Creative writing in historic Irish houses - uncovering history’s hidden stories

Dates
Tuesday, July 16, 2019 - 10:30 to 14:00
Location
Muckross House and Gardens, Killarney, Co. Kerry, V93 CK73.

We all have stories to tell, and some of the best ones come from our family histories. As 2019 is the 50th anniversary of The Open University, what better time to explore the stories in your family that have been hidden over the decades?

Join award-winning poet and Open University tutor Dr Nessa O'Mahony in Muckross House, Killarney, Co Kerry  the stunning 19th century victorian mansion on the shores of the Killarney Lakes for a free tour of Muckross House before a free Creative Writing workshop.

During the workshop you'll discover ways to kick-start a writing project, shape your stories, memoirs or poetry and research the past.

Dr Nessa O’Mahony has published five volumes of poetry, many of which explored the history within her own family, as well as a crime novel inspired by her grandfather. Nessa is an Associate Lecturer on The Open University’s Masters in Creative Writing.

Read an interview with Nessa on the Listowel Writers’ Week blog where she discusses Creative Writing at The Open University.

Admission to the house tour and workshop is free, but places are strictly limited to 20, so registration is essential.

This event is now sold out. To register for the waiting list please contact on The Open University's Dublin office on 01 678 53 99 or email Ireland-events@open.ac.uk.
