Professional and regulatory bodies

We work with a range of professional and regulatory bodies in the Republic of Ireland to ensure our courses and qualifications meets standards of sector organisations as well as needs and priorities of the national higher education system.

Aontas

The Open University works closely with Aontas, the National Adult Learning Organisation to promote adult learning across Ireland.  Aontas advocate for the right of all adults in Ireland to quality lifelong learning.  A passion which The Open University shares with them.

Higher Education Authority

The Open University works with the Higher Education Authority (HEA) to keep abreast of all policy developments relating to Higher Education in the Republic of Ireland. The Open University received HEA Springboard funding in 2011 and 2013 to provide courses and qualifications for people in employment via this innovative programme.

MBA Association of Ireland

The Open University is a member of the MBA Association of Ireland (MBAAI).  The MBAAI provides an opportunity for MBA graduates to continue the benefits of their MBA experience, via a professional network of over 2000 MBAs at every level of business life in Ireland, and a series of business seminars and networking events.

MBAAI is the 2000-strong representative body for graduates holding the degree of Masters in Business Administration (MBA) living and working in Ireland. Its mission is to improve the practice of management through continuous learning, to which end it organizes around 20 events throughout Ireland each year. Excellent relationships exist with all of the business schools in Ireland, from where over 350 new MBAs join the MBAAI every year.

Quality and Qualifications Ireland

The Open University works closely with Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), the new integrated agency replacing the Further Education and Training Awards Council, the Higher Education and Training Awards Council and the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland and incorporating the functions of the Irish Universities Quality Board. QQI is also responsible for the external quality assurance of further and higher education and training (including English language provision) and validates programmes and makes awards for certain providers in these sectors.

The Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI)

The Open University works with the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) to develop and share professional practice amongst students, including attending and organising conferences and events. Graduates of the OU Psychology degree are eligible for Graduate Membership of the PSI.

Universities Ireland

The Open University became the tenth member of Universities Ireland in 2011. The partnership was founded in 2003 to promote and develop cooperation between the institutions on the island of Ireland. The Centre for Cross Border Studies provides the Secretariat for the group.

Dublin Chamber of Commerce

The Open University is a member of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, an organisation that represents the interests of all businesses in the Greater Dublin Area.

As the voice of the Dublin business community, the Dublin Chamber of Commerce engages with key policy and decision makers who impact on the Dublin business environment, as well as with policy and decision makers who impact on national and international business environments. Working with central and local Government Officials, State Agencies, An Garda Síochána, Higher Education Institutes and businesses, the Chamber focuses on the key policy areas impacting on the attractiveness of the Greater Dublin Area as a location in which to live, work, visit and invest.

The Open University is a member of Cork Chamber of Commerce, previously hosting an MBA breakfast briefing in partnership with Cork Chamber Skillnets.

Cork Chamber was established over 200 years ago and represents 1,200 companies that employ over 100,000 people across the Cork region. It is a significant influencer of national, regional and local policy and aims to make Cork a better place for doing business through robust proposals, careful positioning and the building of lasting relationships with key decision makers. Cork Chamber’s vision is to empower a successful, progressive and influential membership working together with the businesses that drive the economy of the Cork city region.
