OU academic becomes world champion in World Transplant Games

OU academic becomes world champion in World Transplant Games

Bart Rienties, Professor of Learning Analytics at the OU’s Institute of Educational Technology (IET) has become world champion at the World Transplant Games at Malaga in the discipline cycling team time trial. In a competitive field of 15 teams, Freek van Empel, Erik Pul and Bart Rienties won by 48 seconds at the 15.4 KM stage.

After the race, Bart said: "Everyone deserves a second chance, and registering as a donor can make such a difference to the people around you.”

Professor Rienties is programme director Learning Analytics within IET and Chair of Analytics4Action project, which focuses on evidence-based research on interventions on OU modules to enhance student experience. As educational psychologist, he conducts multi-disciplinary research on work-based and collaborative learning environments and focuses on the role of social interaction in learning, which is published in leading academic journals and books.
