Living in Milton Keynes
The OU is not a conventional university; its undergraduate students complete their studies by distance learning and so never come to campus. The only students on campus are full-time postgraduate research students who live off-campus in private rented accommodation.
As a full-time research student you will need to choose and arrange your own accommodation. We recommend that you arrange temporary accommodation for the first week or so of your stay here so you can look around and find something more permanent to suit your needs.
Using a property or estate agent can often be the easiest way to find good accommodation, although you are likely to have to pay a little more. You will usually be asked to provide confirmation of your status as an OU student. The Research Degrees Office can provide this if you give your permission for us to share this information with the agent. Please email the Research Degrees Office as soon as you start negotiating with an agent.
Also, please let the Research Degrees Office know of any changes to your contact details to ensure you do not miss out on vital information.
We've produced a factsheet of things to keep in mind to help you with getting settled.
If you have any queries or would like any further information about finding accommodation and settling in (especially if you are coming here with a family), do please contact our accommodation advisers, by emailing student-accommodation-advisers
