We wish to celebrate the launch of the idea of the 'University of the Air' through an innovative arts commission and wish to invite artists across the OU’s four nations to design artwork around the theme of ‘University of the Air’ to represent the OU’s key research themes of design and technology, arts and humanities, science and social science.
One artist/company from each nation of the UK will work with the OU offices in Belfast, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Milton Keynes to develop a new work that promotes the OU’s research. It will be important that the artist/company understands the OU’s research strengths and brings to the project exciting, creative ideas about how aspects of the OU’s research across science, social science, technology and the humanities can be promoted imaginatively and engagingly.
The OU seeks an artist/company with a sound track record in the design, development and production of new work that will connect public audiences with the project aim and themes. The OU is looking for exceptional and unique approaches to the brief.
Ownership of the work will be retained by the artists.
Applications are welcome from artists in the following nations:
• England – where we will celebrate the OU’s research in Design and Technology
• Northern Ireland – where we will celebrate the OU’s research in Arts and Humanities
• Scotland – where we will celebrate the OU’s research in Science
• Wales – where we will celebrate the OU’s research in Social Sciences
Local artists from each of these locations are invited to submit a proposal to create a unique commission for each nation. These separate commissions will stamp the unique identity of each research theme.
