I qualified as a Registered General Nurse (Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast) in 1985 and then gained a Degree in Nursing (University of Ulster) in 1988. After working as a Staff Nurse in various locations (Dorset, Scotland and London), I took the Institute of Health Service Management Diploma (IHSM). This was followed by employment as a Development Worker within the Voluntary Sector (Disability Action), focusing on advocacy and community development. For 7 years after this, I managed a Disability Resource Centre (Down & Lisburn Health and Social Services Trust) where I secured independent funding for the development of a group which was established and run entirely by people with disabilities. Since 2002 I have been employed as a Staff Tutor (The Open University Ireland headquarters in Belfast).
My main research interest is in end of life care and in care of older people.
I enjoy working with students at level 1 who benefit from confidence-building and learning how to develop writing and study skills.
