Professional biography

Borja is Lecturer in Operations Management at The Open University Business School.

Borja, who holds a Bachelor in Industrial Engineering (2010) and a Master in Business Administration (2013), defended his viva at the University of Oviedo (Spain) in December 2016. From 2012 until then, he balanced the development of his thesis with his work as a teaching assistant at the aforementioned institution. Since January 2017, Borja worked as a Research Associate at Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University, where he worked within the within the project "Resilient Remanufacturing Networks: Forecasting, Informatics and Holons", sponsored by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). In March 2018, Borja joined The Open University.

Research interests

His research so far revolves around the role of agent-based modelling and simulation techniques as powerful laboratories for supply chain understanding and business transformation. Since 2017, his research especially focuses on closed-loop supply chains, which are gaining strategic importance as stepping stones towards economic, environmental, and social sustainability. Borja's work has been already published in several peer-reviewed journals such as Expert Systems with Applications (2015), Decision Support Systems (2016), Production Planning and Control (2016), Computers & Operations Research (2017), International Journal of Production Research (2017), and Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review (2018).

Teaching interests

Borja taught several undergraduate and postgraduate courses (e.g., "Supply Chain Management"and "Business Simulation") at the University of Oviedo (Spain). In addition, he is the leading author of a book chapter on the employment of ICT technologies in teaching systems thinking for managing supply chains. He has also been a member within a teaching innovation project and participated in several teaching conferences.
