Professional biography

Jeremy is currently a Lead Staff Tutor in the School of Education, Childhood, Youth and Sport, working predominantly in the Early Childhood Pathway.

Prior to joining the OU, he lectured for five years in the Centre for Language and Communication, Cardiff University. He produced and taught a range of sociolinguistics modules, from "Pragmatics", "Media Texts" and "Non-Verbal Communication" to "Lexical Semantics" and "Systemic Functional Linguistics".

He has also been a Primary teacher, working for six years in an inner city Cardiff school where he developed a keen interest in vocabulary acquistion, visual literacy and children's reading practices. 

Jeremy joined the Open University as an Associate Lecturer in 2005, teaching on a range of English language modules including "Exploring English Grammar", "The Art of English" and "The English Language: Past, Present and Future". He currently tutors on L101 "Introducing English Language Studies" and L301 "Language, Literature and Childhood". He has received multiple awards for his supportive and inclusive teaching practices, at both Cardiff University and at the Open University. 

From 2007 Jeremy started working as an Assistant Staff Tutor for the Faculty of Education and Language Studies, based in the Cardiff office. He worked with Associate Lecturers in the roll-out of the online teaching platform Elluminate and was also involved with the devleopment of the nascent Sport and Fitness programme. 

Since 2015, he has been a permanent Staff Tutor in ECYS, WELS. He was the first ECYS Link Staff Tutor at the outset of the Student Support Team model. He held the position of Lead Staff Tutor on E102 Introducing Childhood Studies and Child Psychology for five years, as it grew to become the largest single presentation module at the OU. In 2022 he moved over to the Early Childhood team, leading the group of Staff Tutors in that pathway.
