Research interests

During my PhD at the OU I worked with Andrew Norton, using the SuperWASP archive to study variable stars, especially eclipsing binaries and variables exhibiting period changes.  Initially I concentrated on very short-period binaries - usually W UMa-type contact systems - close to the cut-off in the period distribution for main sequence binaries, around 0.20 days.  Many of these binaries have proved to be part of higher-order multiple systems, leading to an ongoing interest in stellar multiplicity more generally; I have also studied post-common-envelope eclipsing binaries to search for orbital period changes potentially linked to planetary companions.  Currently I am working with Simon Clark, looking at high-mass stars in young massive clusters, especially in the Galactic Centre, and identifying binaries and Cepheids.
