Professional biography

I am postgraduate research student working on the PhD project "10,000 Pulsating Stars" under the supervision of Prof. Andrew Norton.

BSc (Hons) "Physical Science" (2012) 1st class, The Open University.

My previous career was in IT support and training, and included visits to Perth, WA and Johannesburg, SA. 

I am an Associate Member of the Institute of Physics and a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.

Research interests

My PhD is called "10,000 pulsating stars" as it involves identifying characteristic features of the Blazhko effect in a type of pulsating variable star from the SuperWASP archive known as RR Lyrae. My research involves using frequency spectra, light curves, and O-C techniques to identify and quantify the Blazhko effect, and possibly even some pulsating binary systems! I have recently had my first paper published in Astronomy and Astrophysics entitled "The SuperWASP catalogue of 4963 RR Lyr stars: identification of 983 Blazhko effect candidates", available at

Previous undergraduate projects have included remotely using the PIRATE facility at Mallorca and my final year project was on the progenitors of gamma-ray bursts.
