Research Degree Skills

The Research Degree Skills website  is an evolving resource for postgraduate research students as they embark on their studies.  It will help you to identify your existing skills and to plan a programme of development for skills which need updating or acquiring.  It is closely linked to the Skills Audit which all first year (or part-time equivalent) postgraduate research students are required to carry out.  The Research Degree Skills website now provides access to the STM895 website which is aimed at Faculty of Science postgraduate research students and provides links to course materials, the e-portfolio system and conferencing facilities.

The Research Degrees Skills website is currently undergoing a revision which includes an e-portfolio system for all postgraduate research students not just those from the Faculty of Science.

BECOMING A PhD RESEARCHER:  ADVICE ON PREPARING FOR ACADEMIC PRACTICE

This website is for those who are studying for a doctorate, or who are in the early stages of developing a career beyond their PhD. It aims to demystify the PhD process and give you opportunities to reflect on your academic practice.

Content for this site has been derived from recent research projects conducted at universities around the UK by those working to support PhD researchers in their academic and professional development.

As you move around the site, you will see that different resources are informed by different research projects.

These projects were funded by the University of Oxford’s Centre for Excellence in Preparing for Academic Practice (based at the Oxford Learning Institute). We hope you will find the resources available here helpful.
