Professor appointed to Alcohol Education and Research Council
Professor Sally Dibb has been appointed by the Secretary of State for Health to the Alcohol Education and Research Council (AERC). The council is a registered charity that works under the auspices of the Department of Health to create the UK's foremost evidence base on alcohol harm. Its work involves funding research and education projects on alcohol-related issues. More than 60 applicants applied for just a few posts, with selection taking place by interview at the Department of Health.OU Business Award goes to 'intelligent driving' company
The Open University was proud to sponsor the Business Innovation category in the latest Milton Keynes & North Bucks Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards. The winning company, demonstrating the most innovative use of technology to deliver a high quality service, was Trafficmaster plc. It also scooped the overall Business Excellence Award 2008.
Governance challenges and support needs of social enterprises
Good governance is essential for social enterprises to thrive and be sustainable, according to a new research report from the Governance Hub and the Social Enterprise Coalition. The report, which is based on research undertaken by The Open University, will be of use to policy makers in government and infrastructure and governance advisers working with social enterprises.
