BOOK LAUNCH:-

Please join MaMa and Victoria Canning for the launch of our latest books. We will have an evening of discussion, song, celebrations and - of course - books!

Strategies for Survival, Recipes for Resistance, Edited by Jasmin Caur, Victoria Canning, Anstey Gilley, Elisabeth Kabemba, Amina Rafique and Jennifer Verson

A collection of photography, poetry, recipes, musical reflection and stories of our fight for refugee justice. Books will be available to buy for £7 - all proceeds go to MaMa’s legal fund which supports women seeking asylum to obtain legal representatives so no-one has to face their case alone.

Gendered Harm and Structural Violence in the British Asylum System, by Victoria Canning

Based on ten years of research, this book argues that the process of seeking asylum in Britain is not only very difficult, but actually inflicts emotional, physical, and relational harm on those who go through it. Destitution and relentless uncertainty compound people’s experiences of loss or violence, and sanctuary itself often becomes another form of politicised persecution.

Tea, coffee and juice will be provided – snacks and alcoholic drinks available to purchase at the bar
