Pensions

This section is for those retired staff who are receiving a pension through the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS).
USS has a comprehensive website for retired members which contains a range of pensions information, including the following:

  • Information about USS pensions increases.
  • Contact details for USS by phone, post, fax, and email for queries and to advise of any change of personal or banking details. When you contact USS you will need your Pensioner number to hand, and this should be quoted in any correspondence.
  • Answers to Frequently Asked Questions such as how often payslips are sent, how income tax will be applied to pensions, what dependants will receive.
  • Where Independent Financial Advice can be obtained.
  • Links to websites of organisations that can provide useful general pensions information such as OPAS (The Pensions Advisory Service); FSA (Financial Services Authority); State Pension Forecast; the Pensionguide (The Government’s impartial pensions information site); Prudential AVCs (Universities AVCs website).
  • Current USS scheme rules, and the latest annual report, accounts, and actuarial valuation.

The USS website link is http://www.usshq.co.uk/, and you should then click on ‘Members and former members’, and then click on ‘Retired members’ in the menu.
