Palaeoenvironmental Change Research

William D, Gosling

RCUK Academic Fellow "Ecosystem Science" (2005-2010)
Lecturer "Earth Sciences" (2010-present)

Past vegetation-human-climate interactions in the tropics

Dr. William Gosling on field work Napo region Ecuador October 2008

My current research seeks to place current concerns related to ongoing climate change into a longer term context by examining multiple aspects of the fossil record. Research techniques employed in my lab include analysis of fossil pollen, chironomids, charcoal, wood and organic biomarkers to provide environmental reconstructions; and Ar-Ar and Uranium series dating to develop chronologies.

I have active research projects in the Andes, Amazon and Africa with a particular interests in vegetation-human-climate interactions and biogeography.
