RCUK Academic Fellow "Ecosystem Science" (2005-2010)
Lecturer "Earth Sciences" (2010-present)

My current research seeks to place current concerns related to ongoing climate change into a longer term context by examining multiple aspects of the fossil record. Research techniques employed in my lab include analysis of fossil pollen, chironomids, charcoal, wood and organic biomarkers to provide environmental reconstructions; and Ar-Ar and Uranium series dating to develop chronologies.
I have active research projects in the Andes, Amazon and Africa with a particular interests in vegetation-human-climate interactions and biogeography.

Collaborative research with the PaleoEcology research at Florida Institute of Technology recieved international media attention. Bush et al. (2010) highlighted past environmental change evidence which suggests a non-linear ecosystem response to predicted future climate change [full reference below].
