Animal Behaviour and Conservation

Bioacoustics

The current work in this area is on the use of ultrasonic communication by insects  that live in complex habitats.  The project is a joint one with Patricia Ash (Open University in the South), Marion Hall (Health and Social Care) and Prof Jurgen Rheinlaender (Nordkirchen, Germany).  We are attempting to validate, under field conditions, observations on communication and mating behaviour made in the laboratory. WE are particularly interested in the relationship between the use of ultrasound for communication and the distribution of the animals in the habitat.
