Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment that uses light combined with a photosensitising drug to destroy cells. Researchers at the Open University are interested in improving the selectivity and efficacy of PDT against cancer cells and in understanding how it interacts with cells of the nervous system. There are various groups involved in PDT research at the Open University including an interdisciplinary collaboration between biologists and chemists at the Open University and scientists and clinicians at the National Medical Laser Centre. For more information about these projects see the research pages of Jon Golding and James Phillips in Life Sciences and James Bruce and Yao Xu in Chemistry and Analytical Sciences.
