Regenerative Medicine
Tissue engineering and regenerative medicine involve building replacement body tissues by combining cells, scaffolds and signals in order to restore function following damage or disease. The OU Tissue Engineering group uses state of the art technology to develop ways of modelling and repairing the nervous system. Particular areas of interest include development of advanced 3-dimensional cell culture models for investigating the cellular response to nervous system damage and the development of repair strategies using cells and biomaterials. This is a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary research area involving scientists, engineers and clinicians working in academia and industry.
