The Open University and the Royal Society of Chemistry have had a number of partnerships over the years. The forerunner Institute of Chemistry celebrated its 200th anniversary with a series of television programmes co-produced with the OU. In the 90s the course “Chemistry for Science Teachers” was funded by a consortium led by the RSC (£500,000). More recently the OU has been involved with securing funding from the Wolfson Foundation (£900,000) for the “Reach and Teach” project. This involves £250,000 for the OU to develop two short courses.
We have also been involved with initiatives funded by the HE STEM via the RSC, such as “Chemistry for out Future” and more recently on context and problem based learning.
