Former member of staff receives award

Our Head of School, Professor Sally Jordan, was a member of the UK Delegation to the International Conference on Women in Physics in Birmingham. She was particularly pleased to be there to see Professor Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell, a former longstanding member of Open University staff, receive the 2017 Institute of Physics President’s medal for “outstanding contributions to physics through pioneering research in astronomy, most notably the discovery of the first pulsars, and through her unparalleled record of leadership within the community”. Jocelyn gave an inspirational talk entitled “Careering through astronomy”. Photograph copyright Liz Hingley and the University of Birmingham.

Sally’s personal reflections on the conference as a whole are on her blog found here.
