This is a long standing collaboration that brings together the expertise of Professor Bailey in child and adolescent development with the experimental and analytical skills of the OU Group. Over the last 8 years we have studied cognitive processes in adults and children with autism spectrum disorders. Our approach has been to ask them to carry out tasks that link to known deficits in those with ASD and identify, using MEG, the differences in brain activity between our subjects and control groups. Both face processing and language studies have been carried out. One of our conclusions is that our subjects with ASD appear to lack some specialised networks that facilitate normal behaviour.
All the experimental work has been carried out in Helsinki. We continue to collaborate with Finnish scientists in this work.
