Theoretical physics research in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the Open University covers a wide range of topics from fundamental particle physics theory to the origins of embolic stroke, and also supports the experimental programs in the department. We have strong links with the Applied Mathematics Group in the Mathematics & Statistics Department where further theoretical physics research is taking place, and play an active role in the inter-disciplinary Centre for Earth, Planetary, Space & Astronomical Research (CEPSAR) and the new Biological Research Network.
