Members of Rosetta Plasma Consortium (RPC) science team researching many aspects of comet-solar wind interactions and associated ground-based observations.

Andrew Coates

Professor of Physics, Deputy Director (Solar System) and Head of Planetary Science at UCL’s Mullard Space Science Laboratory.  He is a science co-investigator in the Rosetta Plasma Consortium. On other missions, he is Principal Investigator for the PanCam instrument on the 2018 ExoMars rover, lead co-investigator for the electron spectrometer on Cassini-Huygens (part of CAPS) and on Venus Express (ASPERA-4), and co-investigator on Mars Express ASPERA-3. His research interests are principally the plasma interaction with unmagnetized objects (comets, Titan, Venus and Mars), planetary magnetospheres, planetary surface studies, space instrumentation and space weather. He was experiment manager and then co-investigator on the JPA team for the Giotto mission to comets Halley and Grigg-Skjellerup, with expertise on the comet-solar wind interaction.
