Location

The Open University in Scotland re delighted to support the event 'Jackie Kay - Scotland's Makar' at the Cove & Kilcreggan Book Festival.

Jackie is a novelist and poet whose work has garlanded many tributes including a Guardian Fiction Prize, and a Saltire First Book Award. She is also an Honorary Graduate of The Open University (OU).

Brought up in Bishopbriggs by her adoptive parents, Jackie Kay's autobiographical 'Red Dust Road' brings her characteristic humour and insight into her story, not least the journey to meet her Nigerian birth father.

Her volumes of poetry are immensely powerful and she will be reading from her latest 'Bantam' as well as talking about life on the road as our third Makar.

This event will be chaired by fellow OU Honorary Graduate Ruth Wishart.

You can book tickets for the whole weekend at £40.00, or for selected talks only at £6.00 each, via the Cove & Kilcreggan Book Festival's website.

There is a range of free learning on creative writing and poetry on the OU's OpenLearn site, such as Start writing fiction and What is poetry?
