Tracy Chevalier, Edinburgh International Book FestivalIn an event sponsored by The Open University at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, Dragging Shakespeare into the 1970s, Tracey Chevalier discusses the challenges of transposing the tale of Othello onto a school playground in race-torn America.

Girl With a Pearl Earring propelled Tracey Chevalier onto the historical fiction stage and with her latest book, New Boy, she tackles 1970s Washington DC.  When a young black boy finds himself in an all-white school, he is desperate to find an ally, a move that triggers resentment and hatred.

There is a range of free online learning about creative writing and society on the Open University's free learning site OpenLearn.
