Muscle memory often refers to the autopilot-esque way in which we complete tasks and movements we have done many times before. But how does that happen?

One way of discovering this comes from examining the irregularities and distortions of the mind.

In an interactive session full of demonstrations, chartered psychologist Dr Peter Naish, from The Open University's Department of Psychology, will explain what we can learn about conscious awareness from mental illness and guided hypnosis. Suitable for ages 14+.

Tickets are £8.50/£6.50/£5 and can be purchased on the Edinburgh Science Festival website.

You can access free online learning about Psychology on our OpenLearn site.
