A public panel discussion on International Women’s Day 2021, celebrating the remarkable life and achievements of Jennie Lee, Scottish founder of The Open University.  

A miner’s daughter, Fife-born Jennie Lee became an MP before she was old enough to vote, and went on to become the first ever Minister for the Arts in the UK and a founder of The Open University.

Panellists at this discussion will include:

  • Susan Stewart, Director of The Open University in Scotland
  • Mary Senior, President of the Scottish Trades Union Congress 
  • Matthew Knights, Playwright and Founder of Knights Theatre

The event will be chaired by Fiona Sturgeon Shea, forthcoming Chief Executive Officer for the Federation of Scottish Theatre. More panelists to be announced.
