The Open University in Scotland is pleased to support this free online event as part of the Edinburgh International Book Festival 2020.

Since 2010, the award-winning blog MsAfropolitan has connected feminism with critical reflections on contemporary culture from an Africa-centred perspective.

Its founder is Nigerian-Finnish writer and lecturer Minna Salami, a powerhouse of feminist thinking and organising whose first book of essays is Sensuous Knowledge: A Black Feminist Approach for Everyone.

Salami joins this event alongside writer and activist Lola Olufemi (pictured), author of Feminism, Interrupted. Olufemi is an organiser with the London Feminist Library and co-founder of FLY, Cambridge University’s network for women and non-binary people of colour.

In conversation with feminist historian Jade Bentil, Salami and Olufemi discuss the big ideas around empowerment, inclusion and activism and how (in Salami’s words) ‘we see ourselves, our history, and our world’.

This event is free and available to watch on the Book Festival's website. You can go to the Lola Olufemi & Minna Salami event webpage and click on 'Save my place', to recieve an email reminder just before the event.

There is a wide range of free online learning available to explore on the OU’s free learning site OpenLearn, including World-Changing Women, Black History and Writing what you know
