The Google Apps OU email (Gmail) has an OU address of:
e.g. a.n.other@my.open.ac.uk

It is not essential for OU students to have a Google email address. You can provide us with any email address, as long as it is an address that you regularly check for correspondence. When students register to study with the Open University, they are asked to declare their private email address and all communications from the OU are sent there.

However, once you are a student, if you prefer to have a separate email for OU communications, you can register for a Gmail account via Google Apps.

Google Mail or Gmail (OU email) provides webmail facilities which also include the ability to manage your contacts, tasks, see who’s online and initiate a chat session in Google Talk. See Google’s ‘Top 5 things to know about using Gmail’ and the following useful link:

Open links in a new window or tab by holding down the shift key on your keyboard and clicking on the link, or by right-clicking on the link, and selecting ‘open in new window’ (or new tab) in the menu.

Note: that in any initial contact with other students or tutors on OU Google Apps, you will need to enter the Google account name e.g. OUCU@my.open.ac.uk or their ‘nickname’ in full, the first time. After this, Google should remember and suggest email addresses as you type in a name you’ve contacted previously.

You can choose to change the email address we send communications to by editing your profile in your StudentHome page.
