You may think that distance learning means you end up studying alone, but this isn’t necessarily the case. As a student you'll have regular contact with your tutor and many opportunities to work with other students. Chat in a forum, set up a self-help study group and try to attend tutorials.
Don't think that studying with the OU means studying alone. You'll have regular contact with your tutor and many opportunities to work with other students – your course website or printed course guide will tell you more.
Your tutor will contact you before your course starts and then be available to advise you on your study.
You can set up or join a study group to keep in touch with other students, discuss ideas and be supportive. You can also of course revise with others to prepare for your exam or end-of-course assessment.
One of the most popular ways for our students to work with each other. Check out student comments on residential school.
Have you ever needed to present your ideas to others? find out how to give successful presentations.
Some of this may have made you wonder about people at your work. The course Understanding management (Y159) (June 2013) will give you the chance to consider such issues as who makes a good manager.
This booklet complements what you will find on this website. If you are an OU student and would like a printed copy of this booklet, contact your regional centre.
You will need your OU computer username and password to access the booklet.
