My research is concerned with emerging forms of urban governance and subjectivity in post-apartheid South Africa.
I am interested in everyday life and emerging forms of urban identity in cities. I am particularly interested in new ways of thinking about the rich diversity of life in cities of the south, which have for too long been theorised in limited developmentalist terms. I am also interested in social movement and urban politics.
