30th International Human Science Research Conference
Intertwining body-self-world
27-30 July 2011
Hosted by the Department of Psychology, The Open University
We're thrilled that the conference programme looks so exciting and we're looking forward to it. Despite the fact we've been working on it for some months, it's suddenly feeling like 'reality'! With the conference less than three weeks away, we thought you might value some extra information about getting to us and what to expect.
Hopefully this answers all your initial questions. Keep checking the website as we will continually add information. In the meantime, please feel free to come back directly to us if you have further questions - do not contact St Catz.
Detailed instructions on how to get to the College are available from the St Catherine's College maps and directions website.
The full address and contact phone number for St Catz is:
St Catherine's College, Manor Road, Oxford, OX1 3UJ
Tel. +44 (0)1865 271700
Once you arrive at the College, go first to the Porters' Lodge which is the glass-fronted building across the bridge as you enter the campus. At the Porters' Lodge you willl be given your room key and a map of the campus.
All the conference and living accommodation is within this relatively small campus. Rooms will not be ready until after 14:00 on Tuesday. If you arrive earlier you can leave your bags in the Porters' Lodge secure luggage area and go off to explore the town.

Bedrooms at St Catherine College are en-suite, with soap/linen/towels provided, and include a kettle to make hot drinks. An ironing room is also available for use.
If you have previously notified us of of special needs and/or mobility issues we can issue you with a parking permit. Otherwise there is no parking on site and much of Oxford is not known to be 'car friendly' so driving is best avoided.
Breakfast: 07:45-08:45
Lunch: 12:45-13:45
Dinner: 19:00-20:00
Lunch and dinner entail three courses and are served at your table. Please arrive promptly or you may miss a course or two. Tea and coffee will be available in the BS Building at set times. Drinks can be purchased at the JCR bar before dinner (between 18:00-19:00) and after (from 20:00 onwards). Drinks can also be purchased during dinner from a drinks trolley.
We – Linda Finlay, Darren Langdridge and the conference helpers - will be setting up a Registration Desk Tuesday afternoon/early evening at the Porters' Lodge so we will be able to give you further information at that point if you are arriving early. Otherwise, registration for the conference is in the Bernard Sunley Building foyer Wednesday morning 09:00-11:00.
Note the recommended poster size is 'A0' = 841mm (31 inches) wide and 1189mm (46.8 inches) high. You should bear in mind that we are limited by the size of the poster boards themselves which are 90cm x 180cm (3 x 6 foot).
The official poster session is due for Wednesday 27 July 2011, 18:00-19:00 at our Wine Reception but the boards will be kept up until Thursday evening to allow participants to read the posters at a more leisurely pace.
We will have laptops/PowerPoint set up for each presentation room. All you need to bring is a memory stick for your PowerPoint presentations. If you have other needs for technology or other facilities, please let us know in advance. It will not be possible to accommodate ad hoc requests for technology during the event.
We are planning to set up a books table during the wine reception in the JCR bar/annex. Please bring along any recently published books you may have written and/or any flyers for it. This table can remain up throughout the conference with any books left will be at your own risk.
Note that we cannot provide facilities for book sales.
We can't predict the weather but we're hoping it will be warm and sunny, we have had very good summer weather in recent years. Oxford tends to have reasonably good weather compared to the rest of the country. Of course this is England so it can be cool, cloudy and it may rain. Temperature for this time of year in England tends to range between 13-22C (55-72F). So bring a range of clothes!
Oxford is a reasonably small city but offers plenty of shopping opportunities. The city centre is within a short walk of the college and any necessary provisions (toiletries, clothes, alcohol, cigarettes etc.) can be purchased there.
The people of Oxford are generally very friendly so feel free to ask directions from a passing stranger if you are lost. Our helpers and the porters at St Catz will also be on hand if you need information about the location of shops, facilities etc.
Oxford is a very safe city so there should be little to worry about. However, do take the usual precautions of keeping valuables on your person and avoiding walking about in unfamiliar areas late at night.
We look forward to seeing you in Oxford soon.
